“The story of George Metesky — who planted at least 33 pipe bombs, from Penn Station to Radio City, injuring 15 people between 1940 and 1956 — is just one of 85 local true-crime tales in “Undisclosed Files of the Police: Cases from the Archives of the NYPD from 1831 to the Present” (Black Dog & Leventhal). Out Tuesday, the book is co-authored by Philip Messing, a crime reporter for The Post; Bernard J. Whalen, an NYPD lieutenant; and retired NYPD detective Robert Mladinich.”
This case was the first time the NYPD utilized a “profiler” in an attempt to identify the suspect.
